Donations to Healthy Rural California

Donate to Support new Psychiatry Residency amidst Fire in Butte County

Healthy Rural California seeks donations today, as yet another fire threatens Butte County. New Graduate Medical Education programs need funding today in Chico and Oroville, where the Thompson Fire is threatening the launch of a new Psychiatry Residency at Oroville Hospital. Healthy Rural California’s new Psychiatry Residency began forming in Chico from the ashes of the Camp Fire. Since then, we’ve had 2 other large-scale fires and the pandemic.

Healthy Rural California needs funding for our first class of Psychiatry Residents who started in June 2024. With each fire in Butte County, our collective efforts to improve access to care are threatened. Please donate today through this GoFundMe link, or mail a check, remit to Healthy Rural California, 1905 Notre Dame Blvd, Suite 200, Chico, CA 95928.

I am Kristy Bird MaKieve, CEO and founder of Healthy Rural California. Our Psychiatry Residency has a Trauma-Informed Curriculum built to help treat the residents of Butte County. I also pledge to give at least 5% of funds raised to Oroville Hospital for their newly accredited Psychiatry Residency.

Thank you for supporting Healthy Rural California and our important work in Butte County.

This campaign is a critical part of our first year funding campaign. Healthy Rural California needs a total of $640,000 to pay for the first year of our new Psychiatry Residency in Chico.

Thanks to our partnership with Physicians for a Healthy California and with Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine, we have raised more than $340,000:
  • $100,000  North Valley Community Foundation
  • $100,000 HealthNet
  • $80,000 the VA of Northern California
  • $50,000 from California Health Care Foundation (CHCF)
  • $10,000 Golf Tournament players and sponsors
  • Individual donors of $500 or more from Chico-area physicians:
    • Dr. Sean Liston and family
    • Dr. Tanya Layne
Raising $100,000 through this GoFundMe campaign will enable us to reach our total goal of $640,000 and ensure that Healthy Rural California has the funds to support this first year of our Psychiatry Residency.
