Community Support

Elevate Youth Now
In the Fall of 2020, Healthy Rural California applied for and was awarded an Elevate Youth California grant to support the work of the Butte Youth Now Coalition. Elevate Youth California is a statewide program that invests in the youth and supports the work of Butte Youth Now, which includes programs that empower the youth, build leadership skills and reduce access to alcohol. The Butte Youth Now Coalition has also initiated the Opioid Education Billboards and Responsible Beverage Service Training. Environmental strategies have been utilized in alcohol reduction efforts. Find out more at https://butteyouthnow.org/.

Elevate Youth California supports community leaders and organizations throughout California that serve the youth in substance use disorder prevention, leadership development, policy impaction, and environmental change. Funds are also used to support partners that address the detriments suffered by the youth from the War on Drugs. Find out more at https://elevateyouthca.org/about/.

This project is supported by Elevate Youth California, which is managed by The Center at Sierra Health Foundation under contract with the State of California’s Department of Health Care Services through Proposition 64, California Cannabis Tax Fund, Allocation 3, Youth Education Prevention Early Intervention and Treatment Account.

Chico Community Prevention Coalition (CCPC)
Chico Community Prevention Coalition formed in late 2019 in response to the massive changes in the City of Chico as a result of the Camp Fire in November 2018. These events have had a devastating impact on our community and have drained community resources. The Chico Community Prevention Coalition has a major focus of its strategic plan on reducing youth access to alcohol in the community – targeting its efforts on the major access points – including the college community, merchants, parents and older peers. We are responding by focusing on policies that support enforcement efforts and maximizing resource utilization.

The mission of the CCPC is to serve our community by working to prevent and reduce youth substance use. We aim to do this by engaging youth and families, promoting protective factors, minimizing the impact of risk factors, while increasing community education and collaboration. We believe that both youth and adults in Chico should have the opportunity to be the healthiest, best versions of themselves.
By the end of 2020, Healthy Rural California was awarded a Drug-Free Communities federal grant to support the CCPC. This award is up to $125,000 per year for a maximum of 10 years.
