Get to know us in this 5-minute overview of Healthy Rural California’s innovative non-profit, consortium model for establishing new Graduate Medical Education programs centered in Chico, the northern part of Butte County. Chico is about a 1.5 hour drive north of Sacramento. Hospitals and clinics in Chico serve patients from the surrounding 10 rural and frontier counties. This video features our first GME program – a Community Psychiatry Residency focused on Trauma-Informed Care with a first cohort matriculating in June 2024.
Beginning in the north state, Healthy Rural California aims to meet the public health needs of California’s rural communities by closing the gap in quality, access, and equity and eliminating health disparities. We will fulfill our mission through building strong partnerships and coalitions, increasing the number and quality of physicians and other healthcare providers, and addressing rural community health needs such as mental health, opioid use disorder, and excessive alcohol use.
