Why Chico

Chico is the most populous city located in Butte County and is a small town gem where the Sierra Nevada Mountains lie east of the city with the Sacramento River bordering the city to the west. The city is located about 90 miles north of the state capital of Sacramento. Chico has an approximate population of around 100,000 people in and surrounding the community. 

Bidwell Park, one of the largest municipal parks in the nation at around 3,760-acres is located in Chico known to host many outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, swimming, and mountain biking. The Stansbury Home, built in 1883  by one of Butte County’s earliest physicians Dr. Oscar Stansbury, sheds light on Chico’s history. Downtown Chico is a thriving retail and cultural center with a variety of special local restaurants, shops, and ongoing events. Chico is home to the beautiful campus of California State University, Chico. The cost of living is lesser compared to major cities  – housing rentals are 80% lower on average than those in San Francisco, California.


To plan your travel to Chico, the closest airport is Sacramento International Airport (SMF). Chico is located about 1.5 hours drive north of the Sacramento airport.
