Natalie Ladine, MD (she/her) (Program Director, Family Medicine Residency):

Dr. Ladine pursued her passion for teaching at Ventura County Medical Center as an attending physician for 5 years working with family medicine residents. Relocating to Chico to be closer to family, Dr. Ladine filled in various needs in the community providing mental health care at the University, substance use treatment and prenatal care for incarcerated patients, and hospitalist coverage for a rural hospital. Wanting to recruit more high-quality physicians to the area Dr. Ladine took on the role of Chief Medical Officer for the rural critical access hospital in Gridley where she served for over 2 years. Now she is excited for the next phase of mentoring new physicians as the family medicine residency director and hospitalist at Enloe Health. “What I love about family medicine is the variety of what you can do and also the impact you can make.”
Hobbies: attending my kids sporting events, travelling with my husband and kids, hosting backyard barbecues, and playing in adult sport leagues.
Aldebra Schroll, MD (she/her) (Associate Program Director, Family Medicine Residency)

Residency Program: St. Joseph’s Hospital – Denver, CO
Aldebra Schroll MD is a board-certified Family Medicine and Hospice/ Palliative Care physician. She is a graduate of California State University Chico; attended medical school at University of Colorado and did residency at St Joseph’s Hospital in Denver, Co. Her palliative training was through Harvard’s Palliative Care Education and Practice. Dr. Schroll has experience in primary care, student health and has spent over a decade working with patients and families facing serious, chronic, life threatening and terminal illness. She has served as the medical director for an inpatient palliative consult team, as well as working in hospice, both inpatient and home settings. Family medicine and especially palliative care are centered on building relationships, the key motivation for pursuing a career in medicine. Dr. Schroll has also been a longstanding member of Enloe’s leadership team for Planetree Person Centered Care initiative; focused on improving the experience of patients and families. She is currently consulting with Butte Home Health and Hospice in Chico, CA. In addition to medical care, she has also written and presented extensively on a variety of health topics.
Hobbies: In her spare time, Aldebra enjoys hiking, kayaking, skiing/snowshoeing and can often be found dancing at a variety of local music events.
Meghan Leininger, DO (she/her) (Associate Program Director, Family Medicine Residency)

Dr. Leininger, a board-certified Family Medicine and Obstetrician physician, was born and raised overseas before moving to Chico, CA during high school. She completed her undergraduate studies, medical school, and residency training in the northern part of California and currently practices in Red Bluff, CA. Her husband is a full-time rancher.” I love the continuity of seeing a family start in pregnancy and then taking care of all of the family members.”

Kristy Bird MaKieve, MBA, CAE (she/her)
Kristy Bird MaKieve, MBA, CAE, is the founder, CEO and GME Administrator of Healthy Rural California in Chico. Healthy Rural California is accredited as a Sponsoring Institution for Graduate Medical Education. Kristy is also the Executive Director of Butte-Glenn Medical Society, the Lost Sierra Medical Society and North Valley Medical Association in Redding, now representing healthcare leaders in 10 counties. Kristy is passionate about workforce education and training as a key solution to access to care and mental health care in underserved, rural areas. Kristy worked at UC Davis for almost a decade helping launch the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing and supporting the dean of medical education. In 2015, Kristy was the lead staff person who helped secure $15 million in funding to establish Behavioral Health research and policy centers at UC Davis and UCLA, where she became interested in system-wide solutions to the growing mental health crisis. Best described as a meandering path of interesting work, Kristy’s career started teaching art to people who are blind, teaching English in Japan, running Japanese language lessons at the Japan Society of Boston, launching a graphic design staffing service in Sacramento before running a statewide education program for the California School Boards Association in Sacramento. Kristy earned her MBA from UC Davis Graduate School of Management in 2015. Kristy earned her BA from Barnard College of Columbia University in New York. She was born in Berkeley, California but grew up on Long Island, New York where she was often asked if she was from California. Kristy moved to Sacramento in 1997.
Elisa Chavez (she/her)
Elisa Chavez is the Family Medicine Residency Program Coordinator. Elisa played an integral role in launching the Family Medicine Residency. She comes to HRC from Enloe Health, where she has worked as an Educational Specialist and Medical Staff Coordinator. Elisa has a passion for working in the community and being able to see the impact of her work. She understands the need of having more primary care physicians in the area and believes a Family Medicine Residency program can help lessen the lack of access to primary care. She earned an MPA from University of San Francisco, and an MA in Human Development from Pacific Oaks College. She has taken courses in Project Management and Nonprofit Finance, earning certificates in each, and is bilingual in Spanish.
Beginning in the north state, Healthy Rural California aims to meet the public health needs of California’s rural communities by closing the gap in quality, access, and equity and eliminating health disparities. We will fulfill our mission through building strong partnerships and coalitions, increasing the number and quality of physicians and other healthcare providers, and addressing rural community health needs such as mental health, opioid use disorder, and excessive alcohol use.
